Phi Sigma Sigma ‘s story begins in the second decade of the 20th century, when the city of New York was divided among religious, ethnic and economic lines. At Hunter College, a group of women from diverse backgrounds and different faiths founded a sorority that would embrace women solely on the basis of their character. Together, they resolved to build a sisterhood and to commit themselves to excellence in scholarship and selfless giving.
The first nonsectarian sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma is now on 108 campuses, and is home to more than 70,000 members. The tenants upon which Phi Sigma was founded more than 100 years ago — leadership through service, inclusiveness and sisterhood — still guide us today.
At Chapman University, Phi Sigma Sigma was the first Panhellenic sorority to colonize, and in 2013, we celebrated our 25th anniversary. We’ve garnered dozens of honors recognizing our tight-knit sisterhood, high GPAs and campus involvement. We are a nine-time winner of Chapman’s Sorority of the Year award!
